NOTICES & CLUB EVENTS 2011 - 2012

The Rotary year for The Rotary Club of Chester-Le-Street began on 1st July 2011.

On Friday 1st July 2011 - we inducted our new Club President: Alan Hedley.
 
President Alan Hedley's chosen charities for the forthcoming Rotary year are:
 
  • Tyneside Leukeamia Research Association.
  • Northeast Air Ambulance.
Throughout the year The Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street is organising events to raise funds for the President's chosen charity, and other Rotary projects in support of our local, national and international communities, also to promote good fellowship among our members and their families and friends throughout the Rotary year and with ongoing charitable projects, as follows:-

Book sale display at Shincliffe Garden Centre, Durham (75Kb)On Saturday 27th March 2010 - Rotarian David Hughes' launched his 7th book entitled 'My Son The Enemy'. The event, promoted by The Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street, was held at Rainton Meadows Arena, Houghton-le-Spring.

All profit from the book sales is being donated jointly in aid of 'Help for Heroes' and the 'Army Benevolent Fund'.

The books are currently being sold at various selling points in Chester-le-Street and Durham area. The photograph (right) shoiws some of the books on sale at Shincliffe Garden Centre, Durham.

Update: From book sales £13,000.00 was raised. At a Presentation Luncheon on Friday, 25th June 2010, attended by a number of Rotarians, wives and friends, cheques for the sum of £6.500 each was presented by Sir Paul Nicholson, Lord Lieutenant for County Durham, to Representatives of 'Help for Heroes' and the 'Army Benevolent Fund' respectively. A very good result and many thanks to everyone who has helped to make this charitable project a success by purchasing a copy of the book 'My Son The Enemy'.

    On Friday 8th July 2011 - Rotarian Linda Watson is inducted as President-elect for the forthcoming Rotary year, by Immediate-Past President Brian Corker, in the absence of President Alan Hedley on holiday.

    Brian Corker (photographed on the left) was Past-President of the Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street, for the year 2010 - 2011, and his chosen charity was 'SANDS' the stillbirth and neonatal death charity. During his year the Club raised the sum of £2000 for the charity.

    Here Brian is seen presenting a cheque for that amount to his son, Barry Corker, a representative of 'SANDS'.

    Currently Natalie is reading Psychology and Biology at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.
